Remy St. Felix, 24, of West Palm Beach, Florida, has been found guilty by a federal jury in Greensboro, North Carolina, of conducting numerous violent home invasions with the intention of seizing the cryptocurrencies of his victims
St. Felix was charged with nine offenses, including conspiracy, kidnapping, Hobbs Act theft, wire fraud, and brandishing a firearm to facilitate the commission of his crypto-targeted crimes.
Following a trial that revealed his leadership role in an international conspiracy to target United States citizens for their crypto assets, St. Felix was convicted on June 25.
Sandra Hairstone, the United States attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, stated in a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice:
“The victims in this case endured a traumatic, agonizing ordeal that no citizen should be required to endure.”
The defendant and his co-conspirators conducted their actions solely for avarice and brutally terrorized their intended victims.
A multistate crypto crime investigation conducted by the FBI has been revealed.
St. Felix and his conspirators conducted home intrusions in numerous states, including North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and New York, as evidenced by court documents and trial testimony.
The crime gang employed physical violence, kidnapping, and threats to intimidate their victims, thereby compelling them to access and transmit their crypto holdings to the perpetrators from December 2022 to July 2023.
On April 12, 2023, St. Felix and his accomplice, Elmer Ruben Castro, forcibly entered a residence, zip-tied their victims, and demanded access to their crypto accounts. This incident was particularly noteworthy.
Conducting inquiries
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Charlotte Field Office conducted the investigation with the assistance of numerous other field offices and municipal police departments.
They discovered that St. Felix and his accomplices had concealed their activities by employing sophisticated money-laundering methods and encrypted communication.
Nevertheless, the investigators apprehended and held accountable the criminals, who established a connection between the activities of the crime gang.
Timothy Langan, the Executive Assistant Director of the FBI’s Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch, stated:
“We are proud of the work that resulted in today’s conviction, which should serve as a cautionary tale to those considering engaging in comparable activities: we will not relent until you accept the repercussions of your actions.”
