In response to rising competition from startups like Arc, Google revealed on Wednesday the addition of five new features to the Chrome mobile browser aimed at improving the search experience
Among the features are new shortcuts for local search results, a refreshed address bar for more straightforward navigation, trending search suggestions, live sports cards for fans, and more personalized search recommendations to accommodate users’ browsing patterns.
The features will be implemented shortly for both iOS and Android devices.
Chrome Actions is one of the new features that enables users to conduct specific tasks more efficiently without the need to navigate to the settings.
The feature is now being introduced to local search results, allowing users to rapidly access shortcut buttons such as “Call,” “Directions,” and “Reviews” when searching for a local business.
This feature is presently accessible on Android devices through Chrome, and Google will release an iOS version later this autumn.
Additionally, Google has improved the Chrome address bar for Android tablets and iPads.
The new design guarantees that users can access the Chrome address bar while simultaneously viewing the web page they are presently on, thereby optimizing the browsing experience on larger tablet screens.
Furthermore, the Chrome browser on iOS and Android devices will offer new shortcut suggestions derived from previous queries.
The organization clarified that the City Metro website will now be prioritized in the search suggestions when users enter “schedules” in Chrome and frequently visit the site.
Trending queries, which were previously exclusively accessible on Android devices, are an additional advantageous feature.
Google is eventually integrating trending search suggestions into the Chrome address bar on iOS, enabling users to observe the most popular searches across Google Search.
Google also introduced live sports cards on the mobile version of Chrome’s Discover Feed to inform users of the schedules of their preferred sports teams and to deliver automated updates on the most recent scores and highlights from recent games.
Users can customize the feature by simply selecting the three-dot menu in the Chrome mobile app.
