Spotify Tests Audiobook Videos in Expansion Push

Spotify Tests Audiobook Videos in Expansion Push

Spotify is improving the audiobook experience for premium users by implementing three new experiments: the addition of visuals that appear while users listen, author pages, and video snippets

These initiatives are a component of Spotify’s endeavor to enhance its audiobook selection and to bring consumers closer to their preferred authors and stories.

One noteworthy feature being implemented is the ability for authors or publishers to submit a brief video, which may be up to 30 seconds in length, in support of their audiobooks.

The videos may include a message from the author, behind-the-scenes footage from the audio recording process, or an interview segment.

Spotify’s ongoing investment in the audiobook format is reflected in the introduction of video snippets, which have become increasingly popular on the platform, particularly after the launch of music videos and video podcasts.

During a recent earnings call, CEO Daniel Ek hinted at an imminent expansion of the company’s video offerings.

Spotify is also testing visuals for audiobooks. The “Follow Along” feature is designed to offer a more immersive experience, emulating the sensation of flipping through a book with illustrations, photographs, and graphics.

These visuals will be displayed where the book cover typically appears on the screen. It is located in the “extras” section and contains time marks that enable users to navigate to specific chapters.

Furthermore, the platform is currently conducting a pilot program for “Author Pages,” which are an extension of the Artist pages that Spotify previously introduced.

Users can more easily peruse an author’s entire catalog by showcasing their backgrounds, works, and other pertinent information in these dedicated profiles.

These tests are presently available to premium listeners in all markets where Spotify audiobooks are available, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

Access is restricted to a few authors and publishers, and it is exclusively available on mobile devices.
