A French court has ordered the blocking of a subdomain associated with a popular pornographic website, citing concerns over legal compliance and user protections
The two online child protection nonprofits that had advocated for the blocks likely believed they had achieved a significant victory when the Paris Court of Appeal recently prohibited four porn sites in France due to their lack of an adequate age verification system.
However, in one instance, it was discovered to be somewhat of a self-aggrandizement.
According to l’Informé, the nonprofit organizations pursued Iciporno, Mrsexe, Tukif, and xHamster. The web addresses of the sites were cited in their complaints; however, for xHamster, they included “fr.xhamster.com,” which refers to the site’s French subdomain.
Consequently, the court directed the barring of “fr.xhamster.com,” which includes the “fr.” prefix. This implies that internet service providers have implemented the directive and have blocked xHamster at the DNS level, albeit exclusively with the “fr.” prefix. Therefore, xHamster continues to be accessible in France until regulator Arcom resolves this humiliating loophole.
