Semler Scientific Buys More Bitcoin

Semler Scientific Buys More Bitcoin

Semler Scientific, Inc. confirmed updates on its Bitcoin acquisitions, revealing a purchase of $21.5 million worth of the cryptocurrency.

Semler Scientific, Inc. (SMLR), a company that provides technology solutions for chronic diseases, has confirmed the acquisition of $21.5 million in Bitcoin.

This announcement is part of the company’s ongoing crypto acquisition activity.

Additionally, the organization revised its capital markets strategy and overall key performance indicators.

The organization, which implemented a BTC treasury strategy earlier this year, has elected to further integrate cryptocurrency into its financial strategy.

Semler Scientific (SMLR) Enhances ATM Offering, Increases Bitcoin Holdings

Semler Scientific, Inc. (SMLR), a provider of technology solutions for monitoring chronic diseases, has announced that it has acquired $21.5 million in BTC as part of its Bitcoin acquisition strategy.

Semler Scientific’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Eric Semler, has disclosed that the organization has acquired 211 Bitcoins.

The price was approximately $21.5 million, with an average price of $101,890 per Bitcoin.

Semler Scientific has attained a BTC Yield of 67.0% quarter-to-date and 92.8% overall since implementing its strategy in May 2024.

The company possessed a total of 2,084 BTC as of December 15, 2024, which was acquired at an average price of $80,916 per Bitcoin for approximately $168.6 million.

Semler Scientific increased the total number of shares available under its ATM offering by $50 million on December 16, 2024, thereby bringing the total potential to $150 million.

By December 13, the company had generated $100 million in aggregate proceeds from the sale of its shares.

SMLR’s methodology is comparable to that of MicroStrategy, albeit on a lesser scale, as the latter maintains billions of BTC.

As a reminder, MicroStrategy recently acquired 15,350 Bitcoin, which is estimated to be worth approximately $1.5 billion.

SMLR has enhanced its fundraising efforts by entering into a Controlled Equity Offering agreement with Cantor Fitzgerald & Co.

The company has the option to sell common stock through an at-the-market offering in accordance with the agreement.

BTC Yield As Performance Indicator

Semler Scientific appears to be dedicated to improving shareholder value by implementing a Bitcoin treasury strategy.

This emphasis is underscored by the most recent earnings transcript and press release.

A vital performance indicator, the “BTC Yield” is central to the strategy.

This key performance indicator (KPI) quantifies the percentage change in Bitcoin holdings about the company’s diluted share count.

It assists in evaluating the strategy’s effectiveness in generating returns for shareholders.

Semler reported a BTC Yield of 67% and 92.8% for Q4 2024, following the implementation of the strategy in Q3.

The BTC Yield is a measure of the change in the ratio of Bitcoin holdings to Assumed Diluted Shares Outstanding.

Vesting conditions and exercise prices are not included in this calculation, which encompasses all stock options.

BTC Yield is an instrument that the company provides to investors to assess the company’s utilization of capital raised from stock sales to purchase Bitcoin.

Prospective

Semler Scientific continues to pursue its dual strategies of investing in Bitcoin and raising capital through equity offerings.

Additionally, it asserts that cryptocurrency is instrumental in elevating shareholder value.

It is not the sole entity to implement a treasury strategy that emphasizes Bitcoin (BTC).

Last week, Riot Platforms Inc., a crypto mining giant, acquired 5,113 Bitcoin for an estimated $510 million, thereby substantially increasing its cryptocurrency holdings.

This is how it solidified its status as a significant participant in the mining of the largest cryptocurrency and investment space.

This is yet another indication that crypto is acquiring momentum as a corporate asset.

Although SMLR, which is headquartered in the United States, does not encounter the same currency challenges, its decision underscores a more general trend of companies increasingly utilizing Bitcoin as a strategic financial asset.

The long-term efficacy of such bets would be contingent upon the volatility and mainstreaming of BTC in more macro financial markets, even though the company’s BTC Yield metric provides some insight into this strategy.
