TikTok Adds Songwriter Profiles with Music Tab

TikTok Adds Songwriter Profiles with Music Tab

TikTok is incorporating new features into its application to enable composers to emphasize their works.

Currently in beta testing, these features consist of a “Songwriter” designation and a new tab on their profile that displays their musical compositions.

This can assist songwriters in more effectively marketing themselves to potential clients.

According to the company, the new label and the music highlight section are accessible to a restricted number of composers and publishing partners.

For now, there will be a waitlist for songwriters and publishers who wish to participate in the program.

TikTok reported that it conducted a survey of more than 870 songwriters and conducted interviews with a number of them to ascertain their requirements regarding the development of their profiles and the creation of monetization opportunities on social media.

The company also cited an independent survey that showed that over half of songwriters utilize social media to enhance their profile, with TikTok being the most popular platform.

Apps owned by Bytedance stated that the results of these surveys were the impetus for developing these features.

TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership stated, “We are fervently dedicated to assisting songwriters at TikTok, which is why we developed these tools to commemorate and elevate songwriters and their work on our platform.”

“TikTok is distinctive in its capacity to provide songwriters with a platform to showcase their musical compositions in conjunction with their content.

This enables them to share narratives about their music, craft, and personal lives, as well as to increase their visibility and expand their audience on TikTok, as hundreds of thousands of artist creators have already done.”

For years, Spotify has been introducing features that enable composers to emphasize their work. This is particularly noteworthy. Tidal expanded its offerings last year to include a tool that allows songwriters to monitor their royalties and administer the work for which they have songwriting credits, in addition to showcasing their work.

TikTok Music, the music streaming service that TikTok decided to discontinue last year, continues to be significant for artists to promote their tracks and for users to discover new music.

The company introduced a TikTok for Artists tool earlier this year to enable artists to measure the performance of their tracks and campaigns.
