Poe Opens API Access to Multiple AI Models

Quora’s Poe rolls out a developer API, letting bots call models like GPT‑4, Claude, PaLM, and more for free as users’ messages allow.

Poe, the AI platform of Quora, announced on Thursday that it will be releasing an API that will enable developers to readily access a variety of models or bots for their applications.

A distinct fee is not necessary for the API. Instead, Poe’s current point-based subscription plans monitor usage, with each model call incurring a predetermined number of points.

For example, the cost of generating a 1024 x 1024 image with a 1:1 aspect ratio and a resolution of 328 points would be incurred through GPT-4o.

Currently, Poe offers five plans: the $4.99 per month plan (10,000 points per day), the $19.99 per month plan (1 million points per month), the $49.99 per month plan (2.5 million points per month), the $99.99 per month plan (5 million points per month), and the $249.99 per month plan (12.5 million points per month).

Additionally, developers can acquire additional points at a rate of $30 for 1 million tokens. Customers can purchase add-on tokens at any dollar amount, as they are not included in a predetermined bundle.

Developers can utilize this API to enable tools such as Cursor, Cline, Continue, Roo, and any other chat completion APIs compatible with OpenAI.

Currently, the platform offers access to over 100 models used for audio, text, image, and video generation.

Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria are among the multimodal models.

“We are enabling developers to access a private bot they have constructed on Poe through an API.” Additionally, Gareth Jones, Poe’s product director for creators and developers, informed TechCrunch during a call that the company is considering more effective key management for developers in the API product.

Poe offers tools that are intended for consumers, in addition to enabling developers to utilize various models through the API.

The organization implemented an innovative approach to facilitate the development of AI-powered applications earlier this year. Additionally, it provides templates for developing server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots.

Currently, developers will be required to select and supervise the use of models manually. Jones stated that the organization will evaluate the feasibility of incorporating budget management capabilities in the future, contingent upon developer input.
