Midnight Airdrop Participants Claim 250M NIGHT Token

Midnight Airdrop Participants Claim 250M NIGHT Token

Midnight airdrop sees 250M NIGHT tokens claimed in 24 hours, with a fix deployed for ADA Ledger users facing wallet signing issues.

The initial 24 hours of the Midnight Network’s NIGHT token airdrop have seen the claim of more than 250 million tokens. This occurs after the Glacier Drop, which granted rewards to users in eight significant blockchain ecosystems. In the interim, the Midnight team has implemented a technical solution in response to the challenges encountered by users of the ADA Ledger.

Midnight Airdrop Claims Hit Over 250M NIGHT in Record Time

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, revealed in a post that more than 250 million NIGHT tokens have been claimed within 24 hours of their launch. This indicates a high confidence level in the token’s potential for growth and early momentum.

The NIGHT token airdrop was formally initiated by the Midnight Foundation this week, with claims now being accepted from holders of ADA, BTC, ETH, XRP, and other cryptocurrencies. The NIGHT token is being distributed through a phased initiative known as the Glacier Drop, with a focus on privacy-centric utility in mind.

The claim portal is now operational and accessible through midnight.gd. Eligible users, who possessed a minimum of $100 in supported assets at the time of a snapshot on June 11, have a 60-day window to redeem their NIGHT allocation.

It is important to note that most of the airdrop is being distributed to Cardano holders. ADA holders are entitled to 50% of the entire NIGHT supply. Bitcoin holders hold 20% of the funds, while the remaining 30% is distributed among individuals who own ETH, XRP, SOL, BNB, AVAX, and BAT in proportion to their USD values at the time of the snapshot.

Users of the ADA Ledger Face Technical Obstacles

Many ADA Ledger users reported instantaneous issues, despite the strong adoption. A bug in Ledger’s implementation of the Cardano Improvement Proposal CIP-8 prevented users from verifying the proprietorship of their wallets.

Hoskinson promptly acknowledged the matter in the public sphere, announcing that a temporary solution would be implemented. The remedy entails signing a null transaction that embeds the necessary 251-byte payload within the transaction metadata.

“This will only have to be done for ADA ledger users,” Hoskinson clarified. “i will remind everyone that the glacier drop process is a 2 month event. There is no difference redeeming today or a few weeks from now..”

The development team verified that the Glacier Drop claim portal would incorporate this remedy. This would enable affected users to finalize their claim by the end of August.

Furthermore, Bob Blessing Hartley, the Chief Technology Officer of Shielded Technologies, provided a comprehensive video statement that elucidated the rationale behind the remedy. Additionally, he underscored the team’s determination to prioritize wallet security in all supported ecosystems. This would entail the postponement of complete compatibility with certain hardware wallets.

Additionally, Hartley assured ADA users that their allocations were secured via historical records and would not be impacted by the delay. Midnight is reaffirming its mission to introduce “rational privacy” to the Web3 space as the NIGHT distribution continues. This allows users to regulate the sharing of their data while maintaining security.
