OpenAI unveils GPT-5 with new features August 7, but Elon Musk says Grok beats it in the latest AI benchmark tests.
OpenAI’s most recent and potent language model, GPT-5, will be unveiled online on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Elon Musk’s xAI and its chatbot Grok are increasing pressure on the company to make the announcement.
Launch Of GPT-5 Offers Instant App Creation, Custom Personalities, Expert-Level AI
According to a Bloomberg article, most paid ChatGPT subscribers and free users will have access to GPT-5 on launch day.
Next week, access will be made available to enterprise and school customers.
The new model produces more accurate results, stronger reasoning, and faster responses than previous iterations.
According to CEO Sam Altman, GPT-5 is a significant improvement, as he said it now feels like talking to an authority on any subject.
He revealed that the model recently resolved a complex question he could not address alone.
With the upgrade, ChatGPT will include four pre-installed personas (Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd) that may be used to personalize user interactions.
Additionally, GPT-5 does not require human settings because it automatically determines how deeply each prompt should be processed.
The debut of OpenAI coincides with increased competition. Grok is establishing itself as a strong challenger thanks to Musk’s xAI.
Recently, the model was requested to investigate whether Bitcoin is at risk from quantum computing.
This demonstrates xAI’s goal of joining the technological and financial fields previously dominated by OpenAI.
Another goal of GPT-5 is to enhance software development.
According to Altman, this portends the emergence of “software on demand,” in which AI may be used to develop apps instantaneously.
OpenAI’s most recent model created a completely functional French language-learning app, including games and quizzes, during internal testing in just a few minutes.
Anysphere and Lovable, two early testers, discovered that the model was quicker and more dependable.
Musk Asserts That Grok Surpasses OpenAI’s Most Recent Model When AI Race Heats Up
Elon Musk, meanwhile, asserted two weeks ago that Grok 4 Heavy was already more intelligent than GPT-5.
Musk claimed that Grok 4 Heavy is “a lot better” in a recent post.
His remark came after a benchmark that displayed GPT-5 with tool rankings ranging from Grok 4 to Grok 4 Heavy.
Bottom line though:
Grok 4 Heavy was smarter 2 weeks ago than GPT5 is now and G4H is already a lot better.

However, according to the CEO of Lovable, GPT-5 outperformed rivals in handling complicated programs and generated clean, maintainable code while successfully resolving errors.
OpenAI has raised tens of billions of dollars and is valued at $300 billion to enable GPT-5 and future expansion.
According to reports, negotiations are underway for a secondary stock sale that may fetch up to $500 billion for the business.
ChatGPT currently serves five million commercial clients and 700 million users every week.
For just $1 a year, OpenAI is providing access to U.S. federal agencies.
