On Monday, Elon Musk’s X and xAI filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, asserting that the two companies are collaborating to stifle competition.
The lawsuit alleges that Apple has partnered with OpenAI, a monopolist in the market for generative AI chatbots, in an attempt to safeguard its smartphone monopoly. This partnership involves the integration of ChatGPT into Apple’s systems.
This lawsuit is a continuation of a protracted dispute between Musk and Altman, who continue to engage in public criticism of one another. Musk, who was previously a co-founder and co-chair of OpenAI, has filed a lawsuit to prevent the company from transitioning to a for-profit entity.
Additionally, he submitted an unsolicited proposal to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion, which the company declined.
Musk made anticompetitive accusations against Apple and OpenAI on X earlier this month, asserting that it is “impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store.”
The collaborative features are anticipated to be released in December, following the announcement of the partnership between Apple and OpenAI in June.
