The Biden Administration’s renewed interest in crypto policy is indicated by the White House’s decision to rehire cybersecurity expert Carole House.
In a LinkedIn post on June 24, House expressed her “deepest gratitude, humility, and enthusiasm” for the opportunity to return to government service as an appointed official in the Biden Administration.
She was appointed Special Advisor for Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Policy at the White House National Security Council.
From 2021 to 2022, House served as the Director of Digital Innovation on the National Security Council under Biden. Furthermore, she served as a Virtual Currency Advisory Board member at the New York State Department of Financial Services.
She is also a member of The Digital Dollar Project’s advisory board, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the US economy’s preparedness for a CBDC.
House is perceived as a crypto-friendly representative within the Biden administration. Additionally, her return to the White House indicates a renewed emphasis on developing crypto regulations.
Carole House Criticizes Biden Administration’s Crypto Policy Delays
The House has recently expressed apprehension regarding the administration’s delay in establishing a regulatory framework for US cryptocurrency firms.
She expressed concern about the absence of specific registration guidelines in this sector during a podcast hosted by the Web3 Working Group.
Her appointment is concurrent with intensifying scrutiny of Biden’s crypto policies in anticipation of the 2024 US presidential election. A recent resolution criticizing the SEC’s cryptocurrency management resulted from senior Democratic senators’ dissent from the White House. Biden subsequently vetoed the resolution and reiterated his endorsement of the SEC’s decision.
Biden and Trump Clash Over Crypto Support Ahead of Election
Donald Trump, who is expected to challenge Biden in November, has identified cryptocurrency as a potential source of division in the forthcoming election. He has made explicit statements in support of the industry, as have other Republicans.
Nevertheless, The Block reported earlier this month that Biden’s campaign investigates cryptocurrency donations to express a more empathetic attitude toward the industry.
