Anthropic introduces voice mode for Claude AI, enabling users to interact through natural speech in a move toward more intuitive AI communication

Anthropic has initiated the implementation of a “voice mode” for its Claude automaton applications.

According to Anthropic’s official account on X and updated documentation on the company’s website, the voice mode (currently in beta) will be available in English within the next few weeks.

It will enable the Claude mobile app users to engage in “complete spoken conversations with Claude.”

Late Tuesday, at least one user on X reported acquiring access to voice mode. It is powered by Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model by default.

According to a support page, “Voice mode… allows you to converse with Claude and receive responses through voice, simplifying the process of using Claude when your hands are occupied but your mind is not.”

“Voice mode revolutionizes your interaction with Claude by… displaying Claude’s key points on-screen as he speaks and enabling you to converse with him and hear his voice responses.”

Voice conversation experiences are provided by numerous AI companies, such as OpenAI, for their respective chatbots. For instance, Google offers Gemini Live, while xAI offers Grok Voice Mode. Each allows users to engage with computers by speaking rather than typing, resulting in a more natural and intuitive conversation.

Anthropic’s voice mode allows users to converse about documents and images and select from five unique voice options. Additionally, users can transition between text and voice on the move, and they can view a transcript and summary of the conversation that has taken place.

The capacity is subject to specific constraints. Voice conversations are included in the regular utilization caps. According to Anthropic, the average free user can anticipate 20-30 conversations.

Moreover, the Google Workspace connector, which enables voice mode access to Google Calendar appointments and Gmail communications, is exclusively available to paid Claude subscribers (Google Docs integration is exclusive to Claude Enterprise plans).

In an interview with the Financial Times in early March, Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger verified that the company was developing voice capabilities for Claude.

According to the report, Anthropic discussed with Amazon, the company’s primary investor and partner, and voice-focused AI startup ElevenLabs to potentially develop future voice features for Claude.

It is uncertain whether any of those partnerships were successful.
