Apple News+ Introduces Daily Emoji Puzzle Game

Apple is introducing a new incentive to upgrade its subscription news offering, Apple News+: additional games.

The company announced on Thursday the inclusion of the Emoji Game, an original title, in English for both the United States and Canada. This game will join the company’s other games, including the Crossword puzzle, Crossword Mini, Sudoku, and Quartiles.

The New York Times and LinkedIn have discovered that integrating games with other services is a successful strategy for attracting and retaining users.

Apple has refused to disclose its user base statistics regarding Games; however, it has disclosed that numerous individuals subscribe to News+ solely for the puzzles.

The new Emoji Game, which was released in conjunction with World Emoji Day, combines a word game and a logic game that draws inspiration from how we use emoticons to communicate with one another.

In this daily game, players resolve phrases by employing emojis to solve the conundrum in the fewest moves possible.

For example, one might observe the letters “ap” followed by four vacant spaces if the word “appear” appeared in the puzzle. The emoji for the pear would be dragged into the empty spaces to complete the word.

Undoubtedly, the Emoji Game phrases will be more challenging to predict accurately. Additionally, the emoji required to solve the puzzle is frequently located in emoji combinations or those that necessitate a degree of abstract reasoning to determine the solution.

The term for the emoji can also be employed to fill in blank spaces that contain other characters between them.

If you are at a loss, you may reveal a clue beneath the phrase; however, this will result in the forfeiture of one of your movements.

Numerous phrases must be resolved daily to solve the entire conundrum. A perfect score is achieved by completing the game in six moves, and leaderboards enable you to monitor your streaks and compare your scores to those of your peers and other users.

The new Games app will enable you to challenge peers to play with you in the upcoming iOS 26.

Additionally, the game incorporates Genmoji, custom emoticons generated by Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI, to enhance its Apple-specificity.

This increases the number of accessible emoticons beyond the limited selection of less than 2,000 included with your emoji keyboard. For example, the term “purée” may be represented by a Genmoji of a blender and an emoji of a tomato.

The game is edited by Apple puzzle editors and is developed in collaboration with a third party, The Puzzle Society (now GoComics).

It is currently being implemented for Apple News+ subscribers in the United States and Canada on their iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. (Those using iOS 18.4 or later will not be required to update their app to access the game; however, those using older versions will.)

Additionally, the News+ subscription provides access to over 400 premium publishers, narrated audio, local news, sports, and, most recently, Apple News+ Food, a recipe-saving feature.
