Apple's iOS Beta Removes Objects With AI

Apple has recently implemented additional AI capabilities in its most recent developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1

This time, users will have the capacity to eliminate objects from photographs.

Clean Up is a feature that enables users to identify and eliminate objects from images without affecting the remainder of the image. Smart detection enables users to select an object and eliminate it with a single stroke. Additionally, it is possible to eliminate any undesirable elements from the image by applying a brush or drawing a circle over them.

The feature generates the background when an object is removed from an image using AI, as per Apple. Apple stated that the system is capable of recognizing shadows or reflections of objects and ensures that they are eliminated during the background filling process.

Google introduced a comparable feature, Magic Eraser for Google Photos at no cost earlier this year.

Since July, Apple has gradually been evaluating its initial set of Apple Intelligence features with the iOS 18.1 developer betas. These features consist of writing tools, notification summaries for SMS and Mail, natural language search in Photos, transcription for calls and voice recordings in Notes, and a clever replies feature in Mail. Users who have selected the United States as their region receive access to Apple Intelligence exclusively in English.
