Automattic Launches AI Tool for Better WordPress Blogs

Automattic, the proprietor of WordPress.com, has introduced a novel AI tool aimed at assisting bloggers in crafting more precise and more concise content

The tool is the latest addition to many writing assistants introduced in recent years by both the renowned Google and the privacy app developer Proton.

The new tool, “Write Brief with AI,” complements the generative AI writing assistant that Automattic introduced for WordPress last year.

For instance, the new tool enables users to modify the tone of their postings to be more informal or empathetic and to create content using text-based prompts.

The most recent tool is currently accessible in beta as part of Jetpack, a collection of features that improve the functionality of WordPress.com-hosted websites. It is also available separately as a plugin for self-hosted WordPress sites.

Nevertheless, Write Brief with AI is exclusively accessible to WordPress.com sites (at no cost) during the beta phase. It is accessible by clicking on the Jetpack emblem in the editor’s upper-right corner.

WordPress’s Write Brief with AI feature informs users when they employ an excessive number of words to describe an object and allows them to select a “Suggest” button to condense a sentence automatically.

Similarly, it can indicate whether users are using language that lacks confidence, such as the excessive use of words like “possibly” or excessively complex words that may alienate confident readers.

Additionally, the application provides the writers with a readability score encompassing three metrics: complexity, sentence length, and confidence.

The WordPress web

Although ChatGPT has become the representative of the generative AI movement, Automattic occupies a somewhat advantageous position as the propelling force behind a significant portion of the web.

The organization is both a contributor to the open-source, self-hosted WordPress project and the developer of the commercial WordPress.com enterprise.

Therefore, it is probable that integrating AI intelligence into its nearly ubiquitous blogging platform will facilitate its substantial adoption.

Automattic stated that Write Brief with AI resulted from an internal hack week initiative. Subsequently, the company decided to make it accessible to all users.

Automattic’s principal product designer, Noam Almosnino, stated in a blog post, “We were astounded by the rapid adoption and utility of the product.”

Write Brief with AI is currently restricted to English, whereas Automattic’s more comprehensive AI writing assistant, introduced last year, is accessible in a dozen languages.
