Bitcoiner Raises Bitcoin Flag on Mount Everest

After weeks of climbing and acclimating to the altitude, Bitcoiner raises the Bitcoin flag to show it off at the top of Mount Everest.

A 23-year-old cryptocurrency user has displayed an orange flag bearing the Bitcoin BTC tickers down $67,293 logo atop Mount Everest, which stands at an elevation of 8,849 meters.

Dadvan Yousuf declared in an X post dated May 23 that he had crested the world’s tallest mountain, which he had accomplished on May 20. At the summit, he utilized his time amidst sherpas and fellow climbers to display two flags: one representing Kurdistan and the other the Bitcoin symbol.

A spokesperson for Yousuf told Cointelegraph, “Funnily enough, other climbers inquired about the memecoin pepe and where the best place to purchase it was on the highest point on earth.” “The sherpas were visibly ecstatic and enthusiastic about the Bitcoin concept.”

According to Yousuf, the expedition aimed to draw attention to the “global disparity in access to financial education.” The Bitcoiner, born in Iraq and currently operating a company from Dubai, reportedly had a net worth of over $300 million as of January 2022.

Everest has experienced a growing issue with over-tourism over the past two decades. As a result of the summit’s initial mention on social media, numerous novice or inexperienced climbers need to prepare for the challenging conditions.

According to Yousuf, reaching the summit took approximately fifty days, providing the Bitcoiner with time to adjust to the thinner air. Since Sir Edmund Hillary first attained the summit in 1953, over 7,000 climbers have attempted to reach it; however, over 300 have been reported deceased.

“I nearly lost my life multiple times after falling down the Hillary step twice,” Yousuf disclosed to Cointelegraph. “I came perilously close to losing fingers to frostbite this expedition.” Much is owed to the sherpas who assisted me.”

While not all crypto users have attempted as much as Everest, some have advertised digital assets while climbing. A climber utilized Bitcoin to partially fund his ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2023 as an initiative to promote financial literacy.

Three individuals ascended Mount Everest in 2018 while carrying a Ledger wallet; however, the recordings Yousuf supplied to Cointelegraph did not reveal the wallet.

As of the publication, Cointelegraph Markets Pro data indicated that the valuation of Bitcoin stood at USD 67,879. On March 14, the cryptocurrency experienced its highest-ever price of $73,738.
