Blue Origin now accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, USDT, and USDC for New Shepard space trips, powered by Shift4 Payments.
Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has announced that it will commence accepting payments in Bitcoin and certain other cryptocurrencies, a significant advancement in the adoption of cryptocurrencies. This company emphasized the ease of payment these digital assets provide, benefiting both the company and its customers.
Bitcoin Payments Are Now Accepted for Space Trips by Blue Origin
In collaboration with Shift4 Payments, the space company announced in a press release that it would commence accepting cryptocurrency and stablecoin payments from customers for space journeys. Furthermore, it was disclosed that these consumers can pay for journeys aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard using Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, USDT, and USDC today.
Customers will also have the option to make payments using popular wallets such as MetaMask and Coinbase, a major crypto exchange. Blue Origin also announced that this new payment option is instantaneously accessible for all upcoming commercial spaceflight reservations on the New Shepard.
The space company acknowledged continuing to expand its acceptance of cryptocurrencies in response to the increasing demand for “secure and convenient” digital payment options. Alex Wilson, Shift4’s Head of Crypto, commented on the development, stating, “Crypto is now a $4 trillion asset class, and the potential of this asset class in the current payments ecosystem is limitless.”
He also stated that they anticipate that crypto and stablecoins will become more prevalent payment methods for consumers, as both the consumer and the merchant can derive financial benefits from these transactions.
PayPal, a payment behemoth, has recently implemented cryptocurrency payments for merchants in the United States, as previously reported. It is important to note that crypto payments will assist in the reduction of traditional credit card processing rates.
In the interim, Blue Origin’s decision to accept Bitcoin and these other cryptocurrencies is particularly noteworthy in light of Justin Sun’s voyage to space on the New Shepard. The Tron Founder has purchased a seat for $28 million. Nevertheless, this transaction was not executed in cryptocurrency.
