Bluesk, a social platform, is still growing; the company said it had added 3 million new users, taking the total number of users to more than 9 million on Friday morning
In other words, the number of people using the social network has grown by about 50% in the week or so since a court in Brazil banned X (formerly Twitter). Because of the ban, Bluesky jumped to the top of Brazil’s free iPhone app charts. It is now ranked number two, behind Meta’s rival app Threads.
Bluesky told both old and new users that video support is “coming soon” and shared the most recent number of users.
The platform began as a project backed by X to build an open social protocol. It has since grown into a separate, venture-backed startup and was open to everyone in February.
A while ago, Bluesky wrote about its growth, saying that 85% of its new users are from Brazil. Adding so many new people so quickly has caused some technical problems occasionally.
