Boom App Brings Custom Looks to macOS Video Calls

Simplify Video Calls with Boom, Share location time and weather effortlessly on your Mac, Free to try premium features and unlock more

Robleh Jama and Krishna Satya, previously employed by Shopify, founded Boom as a bootstrapped organization. The application is compatible with all significant video conferencing applications, such as Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom. Upon installation, it is possible to incorporate personalized motifs into your video call appearances, such as your name, designation, location, time, and weather.

Additionally, it enables you to respond to conversations by utilizing on-screen effects, stickers, and GIFs. Additionally, you can modify your appearance by adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, shadow, hue, and exposure parameters. Different configurations are also available for a variety of appearances.

Additionally, users can create an off-camera screen that displays a personalized design rather than a barren screen.

Additionally, the organization is implementing a novel feature that facilitates the monitoring of meeting times.

The co-founders disclosed to TechCrunch that they initiated the concept during their remote work days at Shopify.

“We realized we were not merely knowledge workers but all streamers.” We possessed the necessary equipment, including high-quality cameras and microphones, and our homes served as broadcast studios. However, what about the software? These are still the same old Zoom, Meet, and Teams. According to them, the Boom was initiated by their frustration with the current instruments.

The co-founders of Boom App underscored that the product’s objective is to enhance the enjoyment and engagement of video conversations across various applications.

The product has been under testing by the startup for more than a year, and it was publicly released in April. The company had previously provided a paid-only product; however, it has since modified its pricing model to become a freemium service this summer.

The virtual camera, themes, and reactions are free to users. Nevertheless, the cost of sophisticated camera controls, premium themes, custom branding, and screen share features such as presenter overlay and cursor highlights magnifier is $8 per month, $80 per year, or $219 for a lifetime license.

The startup will introduce a timeboxing feature later this month to restrict the discussion of specific topics.

Boom is developing features such as an agenda tracker, dynamic polls, and assessments for the upcoming release cycle.

Boom’s co-founders believe that they can expand the product organically without the assistance of venture capital.

“We are firmly committed to pursuing a more autonomous approach and refraining from the VC route.” Our objective is to ensure that Boom is so beneficial that it expands organically and profitably for over a decade. “The dream is to achieve that while remaining independent,” they stated.
