Assa Abloy, a big name in door hardware, said Monday that Boston Dynamics’ Spot will be able to open its automatic doors by itself
“Until now,” the lockmaker says, “the word ‘autonomous’ didn’t fit Spot’s ability to open accessed-controlled doors easily.”
Thanks to “embedded digital access credentials” that work over Bluetooth, the four-legged robot can go through automatic doors during security patrols. The companies will also offer the feature in places like power plants and oil factories where Spot is used to do inspection work.
Assa Abloy was reportedly told about the feature idea by Boston Dynamics. However, the company has worked on Spot’s velociraptor-like ability to open doors for years.
