Brave said on Thursday that it will be adding an AI chat mode for follow-up questions based on the first search requests on Brave Search
The company released “Answer with AI” notes earlier this year. These show up above search results after you type in a question and give you an easy-to-read answer. Answer with AI highlights now has a chat bar for additional questions about the original question.
The new tool allows users to do things Google, the world’s largest search engine, cannot. “AI Overviews” from Google are similar to “Answer with AI” summaries from Brave. However, Google doesn’t let users ask more questions based on an original query; instead, they have to do a whole new search to find more information.
If you type “Christopher Nolan films” into Brave Search, an AI-generated summary will describe Nolan and his most notable films. Starting today, a chat bar will appear below the AI-generated report, prompting you to ask a follow-up question.
Then you could type in a follow-up question, like “Which actors are in his movies the most?” The AI chatbot will then give you a list of stars who have been in many of Nolan’s movies.
When you ask a follow-up question, you’ll be taken to a chat room where each new question will show you sources that show where the robot is getting its information.
Brave says that users no longer have to choose between chat-first or search-first tools with this new experience, which is driven by both open and internal LLMs. Search engines are excellent at getting pictures, links, and information, while AI chatbots are excellent for learning more about a subject by asking related questions based on the situation. The newest thing that Brave does is combine these two kinds of tools into one.
Brave says that your chats with Answer AI are safe and private because Brave Search doesn’t keep track of your questions or make a profile of you.
The company said that every day, Brave Search handles more than 36 million questions, and its Answer with AI tool comes up with more than 11 million answers.
