Canaan Debuts Avalon Mini 3: Bitcoin Miner, Home Heater

Canaan unveiled the Avalon Mini 3 at CES 2025, a 37.5 TH/s Bitcoin miner that also functions as a home heater, blending efficiency with practicality.

Canaan, a producer of blockchain hardware, revealed the Avalon Mini 3 at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. In addition to being a 37.5 TH/s Bitcoin (BTC) -5.64% miner, it may also be used as a home heating.

According to a statement released by the company on Wednesday, the Avalon Mini 3 was created to “democratize” cryptocurrency mining for individuals by enabling users to mine bitcoin and heat their homes using heat recovered from the mining process, which would offset energy expenses and lessen the impact on the environment.

Canaan first introduced the little Avalon Nano 3 device in July 2024. Although the Avalon Nano 3 is likewise a compact portable heater, its lower capacity of 4 TH/s meant it could only be used for desk-warming and small-scale Bitcoin mining.

The company asserted that the Avalon Mini 3 is more feasible as a combined mining and heating device for home use since it has the power output and hashrate to heat larger living areas efficiently.

In addition to having a sleeker design than traditional Bitcoin miners, the app-controlled Avalon Mini 3 gadget is less potent than some of the top hashrate machines available on the market, making it a quiet and energy-efficient option for enthusiasts.

With a hashrate of 6 TH/s, Canaan also announced the Avalon Nano 3S, an updated version of the Avalon Nano 3 intended to be portable, reasonably priced, and “beginner-friendly” Bitcoin mining equipment.

“We are committed to making Bitcoin mining accessible to everyone,” stated NG Zhang, the CEO and creator of Canaan. “Our vision of practical, user-friendly mining solutions for the modern individual is embodied by the Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon 3S.”

For $899 and $249, respectively, the Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon Nano 3S are presently offered for preorder.

The development of dual-purpose Bitcoin mining devices Avalon Mini 3

Canaan’s product line has evolved with the Avalon Mini 3, which focuses on fusing practical home applications with Bitcoin mining. Canaan is the most significant hardware company to date to enter the Bitcoin mining home heating industry, but it is not the only one.

While Bitmain’s machines, notably the Antminer S9 and S17 variants, have been modified by several outside businesses and do-it-yourself enthusiasts to function as both Bitcoin miners and heaters, Heatbit started distributing its dual-purpose devices in 2022.

“We’re rethinking how technology can minimize environmental waste and create value,” Zhang continued. “Our goal for sustainable, multifunctional technology is perfectly exemplified by the Avalon Mini 3’s ability to generate cryptocurrency while heating your home.”
