China defended BRICS against U.S. tariff threats, emphasizing its role in global economic stability and mutual growth. Beijing warned that high tariffs could harm U.S. interests and reaffirmed BRICS’ commitment to international financial fairness.
U.S. Tariff Threats
In response to the tariff threats of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, China has vigorously defended the BRICS coalition, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, reiterated that BRICS is not directed at third parties and is intended to promote global economic stability and shared prosperity in a diplomatic manner.
Lin observed that the global economy is significantly stimulated by emerging markets, such as the BRICS nations, which ultimately benefits the United States.
He issued a warning that the imposition of a one hundred percent tariff could have an unintended consequence, as it could result in an increase in costs for U.S. enterprises and consumers.
Beijing also refuted allegations that the BRICS initiatives are intended to undermine the dollar, instead promoting international financial fairness and mutual development.
China reiterated its dedication to collaborating with BRICS partners to promote sustainable development on a global scale, and it urged the United States to reevaluate policies that could potentially harm its own economic interests.
