Claude Adds Desktop Apps, Dictation Support

Desktop applications are now available for Anthropic’s AI-powered chatbot, Claude

Today, Anthropic is introducing the public beta of Claude apps for Mac and Windows. According to a blog post by Anthropic, this will “directly bring Claude’s capabilities to your preferred work environment.” To be explicit, these capabilities do not encompass Anthropic’s recently announced Computer Use feature, which enables the company’s most recent flagship model, an upgraded version of Claude 3.5 Sonnet, to execute tasks on your PC.

The desktop applications are accessible to both Claude users, who are free, and those who are subscribed to Anthropic’s premium plans.

Anthropic also released a dictation instrument for Claude. Nevertheless, this feature is not presently accessible in the new desktop applications. To have Claude transcribe and respond to a message that is up to 10 minutes in duration, users can record and upload it on iOS, Android, and iPadOS. For the sake of clarity, this is not a conversation mode. Dictation is more akin to transmitting a voice message.

The new features are being introduced when Anthropic purportedly raises billions of dollars at a valuation exceeding $40 billion. It is self-evident that it is vested in ensuring that Claude is competitive with competitors such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
