It’s unclear whether Coinbase adviser will advise the campaign on crypto, but she spoke about digital assets in Atlanta the day before the presidential debate.
Keisha Lance Bottoms, a former mayor of Atlanta and a member of the global advisory council of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, will join President Joe Biden’s 2024 United States Presidential election campaign.
Lance Bottoms announced on June 26 that she would be joining the Biden campaign as a senior adviser, as reported by Ebony. She was the mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 and joined the Coinbase advisory council in April 2024, having resigned from an advisory position at the White House in 2023.
On June 27, The Hill reported that Lance Bottoms would remain with Coinbase until the conclusion of President Biden’s campaign in November when U.S. voters are anticipated to vote at the ballot boxes. The news outlet quoted the former mayor stating that cryptocurrency was a “nonpolitical and unifying issue.”
Whether Lance Bottoms will guide the Biden campaign regarding cryptocurrency-related matters is still being determined. Recent reports have indicated that the United States President contemplated accepting crypto contributions from supporters and meeting with legislators to discuss digital assets.
At the time of publication, Cointelegraph did not receive a response from the Biden campaign regarding its request for comment.
Lance Bottoms delivered a speech at a Stand With Crypto event in Atlanta on June 26, before the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
The advocacy group has encouraged users to contact CNN moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash to request that they address crypto-related matters during the debate. A 90-minute discussion between President Biden and Trump will be conducted in front of a studio audience.
At the Stand With Crypto Atlanta event, Lance Bottoms stated that Atlanta has a thriving Black-owned blockchain community, as reported by The Hill. “Crypto allows underbanked and unbanked communities to enhance their financial independence.”
In February, Sean Patrick Maloney, a former U.S. Representative, announced that he would resign from his position on the Coinbase global advisory council if President Biden nominated him to represent the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
When Coinbase established the commission in May 2023, Maloney was one of the original advisory members.
In 2023, Coinbase established Stand With Crypto, a political action committee (PAC) that has since garnered over one million advocates and currently supports or opposes candidates at the state and federal levels.
One of the primary supporters of the Fairshake Super PAC is Coinbase, which has launched attack advertisements against numerous politicians who are classified as anti-crypto on Stand With Crypto.
