Using robotic exoskeletons to help people do their jobs is becoming increasingly popular
But people who wear ones supporting the back might be unable to move correctly. To fight this, researchers at the University of Michigan used drone motors and knee braces sold in stores to make a pair of robot knee exoskeletons.
It’s better to strengthen the legs to keep the proper pulling form than to brace the back and give up on it directly, says U-M professor Robert Gregg.
People in the test had to carry a 30-pound bar up and down a set of stairs. They say the technology helped them keep good lifting form while lifting more quickly.
