CrowdStrike Wins Most Epic Fail Award After IT Outage

CrowdStrike is not avoiding the limelight even though its software update caused a global IT catastrophe just a few weeks ago

Michael Sentonas, the corporation’s president, even accepted the award for Most Epic Fail at the Pwnie Awards.

The awards were presented at Def Con immediately following the Black Hat conference, where CrowdStrike had one of the largest exhibits and distributed complimentary T-shirts and action figures. The company’s message to attendees was one of “gratitude and appreciation for the Black Hat community,” according to a spokesperson who spoke with TechCrunch.

The award audience was enthusiastic and appreciative of Sentonas for attending to acknowledge the company’s mistakes, similar to the conference attendees who appeared willing to give CrowdStrike a second opportunity. Footage of Sentonas’ acceptance speech has been shared online.

This final award was a last-minute substitution, as the coordinators explained, “How could CrowdStrike not win?” Then, as a comically large trophy was brought on stage to loud cheers, Sentonas acknowledged that this was “definitely not the award to be proud of receiving.”

Sentonas continued, “I believe the team was taken aback when I announced my intention to acquire it immediately.” “We have stated this numerous times, and it is crucial to acknowledge our mistakes when we perform well and poorly.”

Sentonas said he would return the trophy to CrowdStrike HQ and position it in a prominent location as a reminder that “our objective is to safeguard individuals, and we made a mistake. I am committed to ensuring that all individuals comprehend that such incidents are not permissible.”
