Crypto influencer “Professor Crypto” removed award photos after allegations surfaced that he used bots to artificially boost his fan base.
Shortly after receiving the “best content creator” award at a crypto event, a crypto influencer has not yet responded to allegations that he utilized bots to manipulate his social media metrics and influence.
The Crypto influencer known as “Professor Crypto” on X was accused by self-described investigator “ZachXBT” of utilizing “thousands of bots” to “deceive people into thinking you have an influence.”
The US Federal Trade Commission “prohibits anyone from selling or buying fake indicators of social media influence, such as followers or views generated by a bot or hijacked account,” he also alluded to the possibility that the conduct may violate this regulation.
While Professor Crypto has not yet responded to the allegations publicly, he has deleted several posts showing him winning the title of “best content creator” at the September 17 DeGen Summit in Singapore.
“Key Opinion Leaders,” or KOLs, are individuals whose opinions have sway over a sizable group or industry. They are typically recognized specialists, but they can also frequently be influencers. The DeGen Summit was a TOKEN2049 side event that honored KOLs.
Professor Crypto has over 1.34 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, where he examines and offers his thoughts on non-fungible token (NFT) projects, wallets, current memecoins, and cryptocurrency exchanges.
August 2018 saw the release of his debut YouTube video, meaning he has been creating crypto-related content for at least six years
On the other hand, Professor Crypto’s X account, reportedly set up in February 2018, has 132,000 followers but has only published 102 times. The account’s first post was made on August 14.
Web3 investigator Pix noted that Professor Crypto only directly contributed to two posts.
Some industry observers, however, assert that before Professor Crypto’s win, they were unaware of him.
“Professor Crypto, who the hell is he?” inquired Matthew Varnell, an NFT artist.
Laurence Day, co-founder of Wildcat Labs, stated, “I have been here longer than the stars have burned, and I have precisely one mutual with this account (someone I added within the last week).”
