A Web3 developer wrote on the development platform GitHub about his regrettable experience of losing money as a result of unintentionally disclosing his wallet details
Co-founder of the Web3 streaming app Unlonely, Brian Guan, claimed on June 5 in a post on X that he lost $40,000 due to making a GitHub repository public. The developer admitted that he had forgotten his private keys in the repository.
The founder of Web3 said that it just took two minutes for someone to withdraw the money in response to a community member’s question about how long it took for the cash to be depleted.
The cryptocurrency community had conflicting responses to Guan’s article after it became popular on X. While some people brought up Guan’s earlier remarks against developers using OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, to create code, others found Guan’s sympathy for the developer and provided support.
A community member apologized and hoped Guan would recover after sharing their story. Other community members, nevertheless, lacked charity.
Guan shared his thoughts on smart contract engineers in 2023. In Guan’s opinion, projects that pay clever contract engineers $200,000 are “ngmi,” which stands for “not gonna make it.” Any competent developer “should be able to write solidity with the help of ChatGPT,” according to the Web3 founder.
As a result, community member Foorbar made fun of Guan’s earlier post by claiming that developers ought to be able to store private keys in their GitHub accounts with the assistance of ChatGPT and that if someone is spending $200 on a hardware wallet, they won’t last.
Meanwhile, another user said that while they were sorry for what happened, Guan’s opinions on developers reeked of “Gen Z entitlement.”
Another commenter regretted the incident but stated Guan’s views on developers were blatant examples of “Gen Z entitlement.”
Even though coding with ChatGPT is still debatable to some, a memecoin created with the help of the AI chatbot has already achieved success in the cryptocurrency market. Turbo, a memecoin, saw prices soar to a new all-time high on May 28 when it crossed the $600 million market value threshold.
Using ChatGPT, digital artist Rhett Mankind invented the memecoin in April 2023. ChatGPT was guided by humankind to create what he called “the next great” memecoin through prompts.
