The Washington Post reports that Russia is blocking the chat app Discord, joining Facebook and X, which have been blocked since the war with Ukraine began
The twist is that the Russian military uses Discord to coordinate communications because it lacks secure messaging systems.
Russia’s internet watchdog is said to have said that the site posted extremist content, such as child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Turkey did the same thing and blocked the app because it wouldn’t inform the government about its users.
Discord said on its status page, “We are aware of reports that Discord is not accessible in Russia and Turkey.” Our team is looking into these reports right now.
