Officials say that the plan involved sending more than 6,000 fake iPhones from Hong Kong to Apple to be fixed. The two people got a real phone as a replacement with the help of counterfeit IMEI and serial numbers.

The U.S. Department of Justice says that Haotian Sun and Pengfei Xue ultimately cost Apple over $2.5 million. The guys were given prison terms of 57 and 54 months, respectively. Apple told Xue to pay them almost $400,000 in reparations, while Sun was said to pay more than $1 million.
