EigenLayer has implemented an additional security feature for its EigenDA data availability service on the Ethereum mainnet to safeguard the service it provides and ensure its accessibility to all clients
EigenLayer has implemented an additional security feature to safeguard against Sybil and distributed denial of service attacks.
The whitelist security measure, as per an X post from EigenDA, ensures secure access to the service and enhanced protection by utilizing Ethereum’s elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA) authentication or an internet protocol address.
ECDSA authentication is a cryptographic technique that is used to confirm the identity of a user, device, or system. It is founded on the principles of public-key cryptography and employs elliptic curve cryptography to guarantee secure authentication.
The security function
To safeguard the service it provides and ensure its accessibility to all clients, EigenLayer has implemented an additional security feature.
EigenDA’s free tier provides a throughput of up to 768 kilobytes per 10-minute interval, vastly exceeding the requirements of even the busiest rollups on Ethereum. Base, for example, does not utilize more than two clumps every 10 minutes.
Furthermore, EigenDA enables partners to request increased throughput beyond the free tier, offering a versatile solution for high-demand use cases.
EigenDA’s partner registration page enables interested parties to collaborate with the company to develop customized solutions that meet their data requirements. This support is available for diverse applications and innovations that necessitate high-throughput capabilities.
EigenDA obtains peak throughputs of up to 10 MB per second on the mainnet and generates synthetic loads of 0.6 megabytes per second.
EigenLayer is also integrating permissionless payments for blob throughput on EigenDA, which is anticipated to be released by the end of 2024. This feature will allow users to reserve bandwidth at a fixed rate to accommodate high throughput demands.
Eigen’s token distribution
In May, EigenLayer concluded the second phase of its EIGEN token airdrop, which concluded Season 1 and contributed to the total distribution of 113 million EIGEN tokens, which accounted for 6.7% of the allocated supply for airdrops.
Tokens will be temporally locked until the conclusion of the third quarter of 2024 after they have been claimed. Nevertheless, the EigenLayer web portal allows users to participate in staking and delegation activities with EigenDA operators.
EigenLayer,
implemented on the Ethereum mainnet in April 2024, has already amassed deposits exceeding $12 billion. By employing a broader trust network, the platform eliminates the need for distinct security solutions, thereby enabling the development of new proof-of-stake projects.
