Elon Musk, Donald Trump X Spaces Event Crashes

It appears that the joint X Spaces event between Elon Musk and Donald Trump was unsuccessful on Monday afternoon

The conversation between the former President and the owner of X was scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. PT. However, users encountered an error message upon attempting to participate.

Upon attempting to access the Space, a message on X indicated it was unavailable.

The meeting, eagerly anticipated by Trump and Musk, was intended to commemorate the former U.S. president’s return to X. The Spaces event, which Musk called a “conversation,” commenced at 5:42 p.m. PT. The live event was scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. PT.

Trump posted on social media for the first time since his suspension in January 2021 when he returned on Monday morning. While some of Trump’s Monday posts advertised the conversation with Musk, others included campaign ads and links to the former President’s website.

Trump has shifted his focus to his own social media platform, Truth Social, for the past three years. However, Trump has been permitted to publish content on X for nearly two years. In November 2022, Musk reinstated Trump’s Twitter account shortly after he assumed control of Twitter, which is now X.

Musk said that a “massive DDOS attack on X” purportedly caused the collapse of X Space. Earlier today, the social media platform underwent extensive testing with 8 million concurrent listeners, according to the owner of X.

Musk initiated the Space interview by associating the alleged DDOS attack, which is a form of distributed denial-of-service in which a malicious actor floods an internet server with artificial traffic, with the opposition to hearing the former President.

As the Spaces commenced, Musk stated, “As this massive attack illustrates, there is significant opposition to individuals simply hearing what President Trump has to say. Nevertheless, I am privileged to engage in this conversation.”

This is not the first time an X Space has crashed during a political campaign’s attempt to utilize the platform. During a Twitter Space session with Elon Musk and venture capitalist David Sacks in May 2023, Ron DeSantis’s 2024 campaign announcement was interrupted by Twitter’s technical issues.
