Elon Musk Launches XChat with Bitcoin-Grade Security

XChat’s new features include military-grade, Bitcoin-inspired encryption, vanishing messages, file sharing, and audio/video calls, enhancing user privacy.

Elon Musk is adopting Bitcoin-inspired encryption for XChat, the upcoming messaging feature on X. Musk highlighted its security as a game-changer, enhancing user experience with robust privacy measures.

Elon Musk Leverages Bitcoin-Style Encryption for XChat

As XChat nears its commercial launch, Elon Musk has announced new features emphasizing security, drawing inspiration from Bitcoin’s cryptographic methods.

In an X post, Musk confirmed that XChat will utilize “Bitcoin-style” encryption for advanced security, likely employing the SHA-256 standard, with each user assigned a public and private key.

To bolster security, Musk noted that XChat is developed using Rust, a programming language known for its focus on safety and performance.

Beyond its technical framework, XChat offers features like audio and video calls and vanishing messages for added privacy, positioning it as a rival to Signal and Telegram.

“You can make audio/video calls without a phone number across all platforms,” Musk stated.

Currently in beta, XChat is accessible only to premium users. Musk also clarified that no integration deal has been made with Telegram Messenger for xAI. After full release, XChat aims to compete with WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram.

Tesla Maintains Significant Bitcoin Holdings

Despite Musk’s fondness for Dogecoin, he remains a strong Bitcoin supporter. Arkham recently disclosed that Tesla holds $1.25 billion in Bitcoin, a position it has maintained since 2021.

Musk has endorsed the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, attending the signing of the related Executive Order.

Following Musk’s X post about XChat’s encryption, Bitcoin’s price rose nearly 2% within hours, recovering from an 8% drop to $103K and now trading above $105K.
