EU regulators are investigating whether the deal between Google and Samsung for chatbots restricts competition
Last month, the European Commission announced that it would issue requests for information to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the consequences of the agreement, which would involve the integration of Google’s Gemini Nano into Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series smartphones.
If the EU antitrust enforcer identifies any anti-competitive practices, the action could assist in developing a case against the companies.
The questionnaire inquired whether the pre-installation of Gemini Nano via the device or the cloud restricts the number of other generative AI systems that may be pre-installed on the same device.
Regulators were also interested in determining whether the pre-installation of Gemini Nano restricts the interoperability of other chatbots and applications that are pre-installed on Samsung smartphones.
