Google Cuts 200+ Core Tech Jobs, Shifts Roles to India & Mexico.
Google has declared its intention to terminate the employment of several hundred ‘Core’ employees. The technology behemoth is preparing to lay off at least 200 workers, with many positions relocated to India and Mexico.
The core team is the collective responsible for the technological advancements of Google’s most critical products. Furthermore, as stated on the organization’s official website, its role extends to safeguarding users’ online safety. Several positions will be eliminated as part of the organization’s reorganization.
Google will terminate a minimum of 200 employees.
Since the beginning of 2024 and a significant portion of the previous year, redundancies have been an unfortunate reality in the technology industry. Even with the substantial growth of their earnings reports, some industry leaders have been compelled to evaluate the magnitude of their workforce. Many have since been obliged to implement significant reductions in their workforce.
Google has now implemented reductions affecting hundreds of its “core” employees, continuing this trend. Reportedly, these positions will also be eliminated as part of the organization’s reorganization. Further, many positions will be relocated to India and Mexico.
Asim Husain, the organization’s vice president, emailed his team about the reductions last week. Documents indicate that he reportedly told employees that the reduction would be “the largest planned reduction for his team this year.”
Husain wrote, “We intend to expand in high-growth global workforce locations while maintaining our current global footprint to be closer to our developer communities and partners.”
Google’s partner organization, Alphabet, announced in early 2023 that it would eliminate 12,000 positions. As a result, it was prepared to reduce its overall workforce by 6%. As a result of its most recent initiative, Google will eliminate at least fifty positions from its California offices.
