Google Rolls Out AI Mode in India

Google unveils AI Mode in India, an advanced search option powered by Gemini 2.0, offering deeper reasoning, multimodal queries, and interactive summaries.

Today, users in India were introduced to Google’s AI mode, a search utility reminiscent of a Q&A format. The company stated that this utility is currently in the experimental phase and that users must consent to its use through Search Labs.

Upon opting in, users are permitted to submit inquiries in English. Google did not provide any information regarding its intentions to support local languages or the potential availability of such support.

Users can conduct searches for responses to intricate, multifaceted inquiries, such as “My children are four and seven years old and possess an abundance of energy.”

Provide innovative strategies for engaging them in indoor physical activity, particularly on hot days, without needing a significant amount of space or expensive tools. Users have the option to pose additional inquiries to enhance the accuracy of their findings.

Earlier this year, Google initiated testing AI mode with premium subscribers in the United States. Following its Google IO event, the organization began a comprehensive rollout of the feature to all users in the United States.

The company has expanded its offerings by incorporating a purchasing feature, voice and image search support, and advertisements.

The company stated that voice and image search features are available to users in India, as voice is a frequently used search method.

It was also mentioned that a customized version of Gemini 2.5 powers the AI mode. The organization also observed that the initial testers of the AI mode are submitting inquiries that are 2-3 times longer.

India is one of Google’s largest markets, with over 870 million internet consumers. It also serves as a testing ground for the company to monitor the usage of its products by multilingual consumers.

ChatGPT and Perplexity are two chat-based AI tools that are increasingly utilized daily, even though Google continues to dominate the search market. Google’s AI mode is designed to encourage users who favor this interface to use its product.

In addition to AI mode, Google has been promoting products such as AI overviews, which summarize query results for you in search. The company said in April that more than 1.5 billion individuals are using AI overviews across the globe.

Publishers have experienced a decline in traffic from organic search results as a result of Google’s AI features, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal earlier this month. v
