Google Tests Gemini-powered Video Search in India

At the Google for India event, Google disclosed that it is currently experimenting in India using a video search powered by Gemini

This feature allows users to capture a brief excerpt and submit inquiries to Gemini regarding it.

Users who partake in this experiment will have the ability to utilize this feature in Google Lens. Currently, video search capabilities are restricted to queries in English on mobile devices.

According to the company, users must enroll in the “AI Overviews and More” section of the Google Search Labs experiment program. Nevertheless, it did not establish any restrictions on the duration of videos when employing video search.

According to the search engine company, India is the greatest monthly user base for Google Lens.

The feature could be beneficial for capturing videos of common objects in India that may be difficult to describe in English. The challenge for Google would be comprehending these objects and responding while adhering to English.

This feature was initially introduced by Google at GoogleIO earlier this year for English-speaking consumers in the United States.

Google encourages multimodal search in India as more individuals are at ease using audio or video as a communication medium. It was reported that over 40% of Gemini users in the country communicate with the assistant in a voice mode in the Indian language.

Additionally, the organization implemented local language support to facilitate seamless communication with Gemini Live in Hindi. It stated that it will incorporate support for Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu in the future.

In 2021, the organization implemented the capacity to search by integrating text and images to alleviate the burden of retyping intricate object descriptions. In 2022, Google’s multimodal search feature was introduced to India.
