Google to Face Punishment for Search Monopoly

The New York Times reports that a federal judge said he will punish Google for antitrust violations by August 2025

The judge said earlier this month that Google abused its monopoly over the search business.

During a Friday hearing in Washington, D.C., Judge Amit P. Mehta set a date for the remedies phase of Google’s antitrust trial. The result of this phase could change how people find information on the internet. Attorneys for the prosecution have until the end of the year to present their plans.

These plans could target Google’s billion-dollar payments to Apple in exchange for top placement or tell Google to sell off parts of its business.

But a year can bring about a lot of change, especially with the upcoming U.S. presidential race. Donors on both sides of the aisle ask the candidates to change the strict rules governing America. The result of Google Search’s antitrust case could be discussed during those talks.
