The party was celebrating Lynch’s victory in the U.S. criminal courts before he and six others were killed when the yacht they were on capsized in a storm last week
In June, he was acquitted of all fraud charges related to HP’s 2011 acquisition of his company, Autonomy. However, it was not the closing chapter of that dispute. Due to a civil case Lynch lost in the United Kingdom, HP (now known as HPE) was still attempting to recoup $4 billion from him.
HPE is currently confronted with whether it should continue to operate in the absence of Lynch.
According to a Fortune article, HPE may be in for a public relations nightmare if it does so. Additionally, the estate is unlikely to be able to take any action until it resolves any other litigation or appeals. Nevertheless, $4 billion is substantial, prompting a legal expert to descriptively characterize HPE’s situation as “on the brink of a dilemma,” according to the outlet.
