Instagram Tests Shared Interests Feature

Instagram Tests Shared Interests Feature

Instagram tests a new feature to connect users by shared interests, aiming to boost engagement and community interactions.

The social network, which Meta owns, affirmed to TechCrunch that Picks is an internal prototype and is not currently undergoing external testing.

The feature was initially identified by Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer who frequently discovers unreleased features while they are still in active development.

Individuals choose their preferred movies, books, TV programs, games, and music, or their “Picks,” as evidenced by screenshots provided by Paluzzi. Instagram subsequently detects overlaps with peers who selected the same items.

Although Instagram has not disclosed any information regarding the feature, the company probably regards Picks as a method for users to establish a more personal connection with their peers and initiate conversations regarding shared interests.

Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, declared earlier this year that the social network would prioritize creativity and connection in 2025.

In a January Instagram post, Mosseri stated, “We are going to double down on messaging, make content consumption more interactive and social, and explore new ways to connect with friends over the things they discover on Instagram.”

Naturally, Picks will not be well-received by all users, as it introduces yet another feature to an already congested application.

The introduction of Instagram Map has resulted in a backlash among users, who have stated that they never desired the feature in the first place.

It is uncertain whether or not Instagram intends to formally implement Picks, as with any other feature currently under development.
