Instagram said on Tuesday that it is developing a feature that would allow users to reset their suggestions
If you reset your recommendations, the app’s algorithm will retrain itself based on the content you like on your Explore page, home feed, and Reels tab.
Users who feel that their content recommendations no longer reflect their interests are the target audience for this product. For instance, your Explore and Reels pages may only show recipe videos, even though you no longer like them.
The new tool is similar to the one that TikTok introduced last year, which allowed users to clear their For You feeds.
Your Instagram suggestions will begin to repersonalize over time, depending on the posts and accounts you engage with after you reset them. You can check your following list and unfollow accounts that share information you no longer find fascinating if you decide to reset your suggestions.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, said in a video that you should only use the new tool when you want a complete overhaul and not frequently.
Mosseri stated, “I want to be clear; this is a big thing to do.” Since we’re going to treat you as though we don’t know anything about your interests, it will take some time to find out again. This will initially make your Instagram considerably less interesting. Although I wouldn’t advise doing it frequently, this allows you a way out if you find yourself in a situation where you’re not quite satisfied with your experience.
Instagram users may now curate their suggestions with the addition of this new feature. Users can indicate their feelings about a post and whether they want more or less of it by selecting “Interested” or “Not Interested.” They can also use the social network’s “Hidden Words” tool to conceal information that contains specific words or phrases.
Instagram claims that even though these tools should help you curate your suggestions daily, you should use the new feature to reset your recommendations when you want to start over from scratch.
Instagram claims that the new function will be available “soon” worldwide.
