The Italian antitrust authority AGCM penalized Facebook and Instagram owner Meta for unfair commercial practices on Wednesday
The regulator’s statement stated that AGCM discovered that Instagram users were inadequately informed regarding the commercial use of their personal data.
The article also stated that Facebook and Instagram users were not provided with the necessary information to contest the suspension of their accounts.
The regulator stated that Meta has already resolved the issues.
“We are currently in the process of evaluating our options in response to the Italian competition authority’s decision,” stated a spokesperson for Meta in a statement.
The spokesperson further stated that Meta has implemented numerous modifications for Italian users since August 2023 that address the authority’s concerns.
These modifications include heightened transparency regarding the company’s use of data to display advertising on Instagram.
