A famous designer named Jony Ive quit his full-time job at Apple five years ago, and he is working on a new business with OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman
The work together was first discussed last year, and I’ve confirmed it in a New York Times article about what he’s been doing since quitting Apple.
I won’t say what the startup is called, if it has one, but the idea came up during dinners with Altman last year. The goal is “a product that uses A.I. to create a computing experience less socially disruptive than the iPhone.” Ive’s company, LoveFrom, is in charge of the design.
Marc Newson, an industrial designer who works with Ive, said that the details of the product and when it will be available have not been decided yet. Even though it’s not clear what the company is doing, Laurene Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective and Ive himself are raising money for it. The business wants to get as much money as possible by the end of the year.
