Linea Lands First Contributor for Open-Source L2 Rollup

The first contributor to Linea’s open-source L2 rollup project has arrived, and the L2 solution running on top of the Ethereum blockchain has been announced.

As part of a larger decentralisation initiative, Status partners with linea, initiating a significant contribution to it’s zkEVM-powered L2 rollout.

Status, a global collective creating a digital platform for inclusive communities, has teamed up to launch the Status Network, according to a press release.

“Status will be the first contributor to Linea’s open-source code […] Developers at Status will engage directly with the Linea codebase, intending to operate an identical version of Linea in parallel, thereby strengthening the entire ecosystem.”

Plan for linea decentralisation

In their longer-term decentralisation roadmap, the partnership marks a significant step towards creating a more open, safe, and cooperative ecosystem.

The team has been “focused on Linea’s open-source stack” since their successful launch, according to their global lead, Nicolas Liochon, who made this explanation in the press release.

“Our collaboration with Status is a natural fit, given their significant contributions to core Ethereum operations and their strong consumer-facing focus through the Status app.”

Contribution of the status network

The Status team will support “client and prover diversity” and conduct research as part of “ongoing engineering” according to the press release.

Contributor to Status Cyprien Grau said that Linea and the network have “a shared vision” to advance decentralisation on the Ethereum blockchain.

“We believe zk is the endgame for scaling and could not be more thrilled about this deep collaboration aimed to ultimately scale Ethereum horizontally.”

Prioritise zkEVM technology.

Absolute ignorance on its approach to scaling Ethereum is based on Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) technology.

Using zkEVM L2 rollup solution, the strategy addresses issues with excessive fees and poor transaction throughput on the Ethereum blockchain.

This most recent development comes after Vitalik Buterin discussed cross-chain interoperability between Ethereum L2 networks in an X post published on August 5.

People will be “surprised by how quickly ‘cross-L2 interoperability problems’ stop being problems,” according to Buterin, who predicted that the Ethereum ecosystem would have a “smooth user experience.”
