Meta AI Chatbot is now 100% Available in India

Meta AI chatbot has now officially upgraded from the testing phase to become officially available to all users in India.

Meta is now making its Llama-3-powered AI chatbot available to all users in India, following a few months of testing during the general elections. Nevertheless, Meta AI can only support English and does not offer any other local languages.

In April, the company initiated the testing of Meta AI in India on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook, distributing it to a limited number of users. The company officially launched the automaton in over a dozen countries a few days later, but it was unavailable in India. This was likely because the country’s general elections were taking place at the time.

Meta has made the chatbot accessible to all users via the meta.ai website and the search bar in its applications.

Meta AI’s functionality is comparable to other chatbots, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude. You can request that it plan workouts, suggest recipes, assist you in writing communications, or summarize a large amount of text.

The chatbot on Instagram can recommend reels to view based on your search query. Furthermore, a Meta AI prompt will be visible on the Facebook feed, enabling you to pose inquiries regarding the post. For instance, you could request recommendations from Meta AI regarding the optimal locations and times to observe the northern lights after viewing a photograph of the aurora borealis.

Meta AI is also capable of producing images in response to your commands. In May, TechCrunch discovered that Meta AI has a significant propensity to incorporate turbans into images of Indian males. Additionally, there were other biases, such as the consistent production of an old-school Indian home with vibrant colors, wooden columns, and styled roofs.

Meta stated that it was consistently updating its models at that time; however, it is still being determined whether the company had implemented any modifications in these regions.

“This novel technology may not always produce the desired response, a common phenomenon to all generative AI systems.” A spokesperson then informed TechCrunch, “We have consistently released updates and enhancements to our models since our launch, and we are committed to further improving them.”

Meta is introducing its chatbot to India’s extensive user base, which includes 500 million WhatsApp users and hundreds of millions of users of its other applications. In addition to the ability to engage in individual conversations with Meta AI on WhatsApp, the chatbot can also be consulted in a group chat to assist with tasks such as selecting a movie or organizing a vacation.

The company stated that Meta AI is unaware of the context of the group’s conversation, which is limited to the text used when the chatbot is mentioned or replied to. Based on your interactions with the organization, it optimized its model.

Meta stated that it is not feasible to disable or conceal Meta AI functionality within its application. Nevertheless, individuals can conduct an inquiry without utilizing the chatbot.

The social media company’s rollout occurred one week after Google’s Gemini app for Android users in India was published, which includes support for nine local languages.
