Meta builds temporary tent-based data centers to rapidly increase AI compute capacity for its Hyperion and Prometheus superclusters.
Meta has been recruiting AI researchers, and Zuckerberg disclosed on Monday that the company is constructing a 5-gigawatt data center known as Hyperion.

The sense of urgency is tangible. Meta is so eager to increase its computing power that it essentially erects tents for temporary data center capacity while its facilities are still under construction, as SemiAnalysis reported last week and Business Insider noted.
These all indicate that Meta is eager to increase its AI capacity quickly after failing to keep pace with competitors such as OpenAI, xAI, and Google. Zuckerberg is unprepared to wait for the typical construction timelines to close the gap.
“The purpose of this design is not to achieve beauty or redundancy.” It is about expediting the process of bringing the computation online. In its report, SemiAnalysis stated. “Speed is indispensable, as there is no backup generation (i.e., no diesel generators) in sight, from prefabricated power and cooling modules to ultra-light structures,” it added.

Ashley Gabriel, a spokesperson for Meta, informs TechCrunch that the Hyperion data center will be situated in Louisiana and is anticipated to have a capacity of 2 gigawatts by 2030.
