Microsoft has announced that the GPT Builder, along with all existing Copilot GPTs, will be retired in a phased manner between July 10 and July 14
Microsoft is retiring GPT Builder, its artificial intelligence (AI) agent builder utility, along with its support for Copilot GPTs.
The Copilot Pro subscription bundle will be devoid of the feature between July 10 and July 14, according to the technology behemoth. After their removal, subscribers will also lose access to the GPTs they have generated.
The company has not disclosed the rationale for the feature’s retraction. Note that Microsoft only introduced GPT Builders three months ago, coinciding with the global launch of the Copilot Pro subscription.
Microsoft is planning to retire the GPT builder in Copilot Pro
Microsoft has now confirmed the removal of the feature in a support document.
It stated that “Microsoft will discontinue the capability to generate GPTs on July 10, 2024, and subsequently eliminate all GPTs (both Microsoft-generated and customer-generated) and their corresponding GPT data from July 10, 2024, to July 14, 2024.”
Copilot Pro subscribers introduced GPT Builder as a tool to develop microchatbots for specific purposes. You can develop these GPTs, also known as AI agents, with precise instructions and knowledge bases.
Because of their diminutive size, they proficiently comply with the regulations.
For instance, we can develop a Copilot GPT to analyze research papers and detect any discrepancies. Microsoft stated at the time of launch that these GPTs could also save time by utilizing a set of AI prompts.
Microsoft will focus on the core Copilot functionality
The company did not provide a specific reason for discontinuing the feature; however, it did emphasize that it is currently assessing its strategy for Copilot extensibility and will be prioritizing the primary product experiences for Copilot.
It’s noteworthy that Microsoft’s commercial and enterprise clients will still have access to GPTs, despite their retirement for the consumer-focused AI platform.
Microsoft has also asked users to save the instructions for any Copilot GPTs generated before July 10. The data and GPTs will not be accessible after that date. To access the instructions, open the GPT in edit mode and select the Configure tab.
The organization promised to remove any subscriber data that Copilot GPT collected from its servers.
The corporation charges Rs. 2,000 per month for its Copilot Pro subscription in India. Microsoft has also disclosed information regarding the process of canceling a subscription.
