Musk denounced it as an “unacceptable security violation” and even hinted that the Apple block would affect guests at his company’s headquarters.
If Apple decides to include OpenAI’s ChatGPT in its iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems, billionaire Elon Musk will vow to outlaw Apple products at his enterprises.
“Apple devices will not be allowed at my firm if Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level. Musk said it was an intolerable security breach in an X post dated June 10.
Musk even proposed requiring visitors to Apple devices to be “stored in a Faraday cage” upon admittance to Space Exploration Technologies Corp., Tesla, and other businesses he owns.
On June 10, at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled “Apple Intelligence,” a new set of generative AI technologies available later this year in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
Over the weekend, Bloomberg disclosed the development.
One feature will allow customer inquiries to be routed to ChatGPT as needed via Apple’s voice assistant, Siri. Users are prompted before sending any inquiries, documents, or images to ChatGPT. After that, Siri provides the solution straight to them.
The most recent version of ChatGPT from OpenAI, GPT-4o, will power the feature.
However, Musk asserted that the claim that Apple “isn’t smart enough” to create its own AI is “patently absurd.” It implied that by outsourcing security and privacy, Apple would be failing its customers. “You’re being sold down the river by them.”
“Musk stated in another X post that Apple is not protecting privacy at all when they use the words ‘protect your privacy’ while giving your data to a third-party AI that they don’t understand and can’t create themselves.”
However, Musk omitted information on the privacy protections included in the OpenAI integration, which is why his X post activated the “readers added context” function.
It sent a link to Apple’s press release indicating that OpenAI will not store requests and that user IP addresses will stay hidden.
AI-related cryptocurrency prices did not rise in response to the revelation of Apple Intelligence.
CoinGecko reports that during the past 24 hours, Render (RNDR), Fetch.ai (FET), and SingularityNET (AGIX) have decreased by 5.9%, 3.3%, and 3.9%, respectively.
