According to an agenda that was published prior to the event, Elon Musk will be one of the keynote speakers at the opening ceremony of the World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai on Thursday
The agenda should have indicated whether Musk would be present in person or via video. However, a knowledgeable individual stated that Musk did not anticipate being present in person.
The WAIC organizers did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Musk’s attendance or keynote.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang is also anticipated to deliver a speech at the opening.
In April, Musk and Li encountered each other in Beijing during the Tesla CEO’s brief visit to the city.
According to sources, Musk utilized that excursion to deliberate on implementing Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and data-transfer authorizations.
Musk has participated in the previous two WAIC events and has delivered video messages. He last attended the event in person in 2019.
Musk’s speech is scheduled on the same day the European Union anticipates implementing provisional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports.
Tesla, the largest exporter of electric vehicles (EVs) from China to Europe, has requested that the Commission establish a distinct duty rate. As a member of the investigation’s cooperating companies, it is subject to a 21% supplementary tariff.
